5 Genius Cooking Hacks

5 genius cooking hacks

Here are five genius cooking hacks that I’ve shared on social media! They are all about maximizing efficiency and flavor with minimal effort. From cooking two types of pasta at once to perfecting crispy air fryer potato wedges, these tricks are designed to save you time while delivering delicious results.

Cooking Hack: Two Types of Pasta at Once

Sometimes, you need to cook different types of pasta for the same meal—maybe spaghetti for one dish and penne for another. Instead of dirtying up multiple pots, you can use a single one! Here’s the trick: boil your water and place one type of pasta directly in the pot. Then, add a mesh strainer on top and fill it with the second type of pasta. The strainer acts as a divider, keeping each pasta type separate while cooking in the same water. Not only does this save time, but it also means fewer dishes to wash!

Air Fryer Potato Wedges Made Simple

Potato wedges are a perfect snack or side dish, and they’re even better when cooked in an air fryer. This method gives you crispy, flavorful wedges without deep frying. Here’s how to do it:

  • Grab an apple corer and slice your potatoes into perfect wedge shapes. The corer does all the hard work for you, producing evenly-sized pieces.

  • Coat the wedges in a bit of oil, then season them with your favorite spices—think paprika, garlic powder, or even a dash of parmesan.

  • Cook the wedges in your air fryer at 350°F for 15 minutes, then increase the temperature to 400°F and cook for another 10 minutes to get them extra crispy.

Batch-Cook Frozen Waffles in the Oven

Frozen waffles make for a quick breakfast, but cooking them one by one in the toaster can be time-consuming. If you’re feeding a crowd or just want to prep ahead, you can easily cook a large batch in your oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F.

  • Place a wire rack on top of a cookie sheet. Slide your frozen waffles into the slots of the wire rack so they are vertical.

  • Bake for about 10 minutes, or until they are crispy. Now you can cook several waffles at once and still get that toasted texture!

Poach Eggs Like a Pro Using a Strainer

Poaching eggs can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. The secret to flawless poached eggs is a simple kitchen tool: a small strainer.

  • Fill a pan with just enough water to cover an egg. Bring to a boil.

  • Turn heat to low, place strainer into the water and crack an egg into the strainer.

  • Cover and cook for 3 minutes. Note: if the egg sticks to the strainer, you can gently free it with a spoon.

Easy-Peel Hard-Boiled Eggs Every Time

If you struggle with peeling hard-boiled eggs, this method will change your life. For easy-to-peel eggs, follow these steps:

  • Before boiling, gently tap each egg with a spoon until you hear a slight pop. This creates a tiny air pocket that makes peeling easier later on.

  • Place the eggs in a pot and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil, then immediately turn off the heat and cover the pot.

  • Let the eggs sit, covered, for 10-12 minutes—don’t lift the lid! Afterward, drain the eggs and transfer them to an ice bath to cool quickly.

  • Once cooled, peel the eggs under running water for clean, smooth results.

These simple hacks will not only save you time but also make your cooking more enjoyable. From mastering pasta to elevating breakfast, these tricks are all about maximizing efficiency without sacrificing taste.
